Ayla graduated from Mercer University in 2019 with a BS in Psychology. As an undergraduate, Ayla assisted Dr. Hanan Trotman in launching a study which investigated the role of stress and sex hormones in the developmental trajectory of psychosis. Her honors thesis investigated the interrelationships between locus of control, inflammation, and depression. Her research interests include the biological mechanisms of depression and the relationship between psychological trauma and physical illnesses, particularly chronic pain disorders. Outside of research, Ayla loves yoga and meditation, eating at the many, many restaurants Tucson has to offer, and watching stand-up comedy.
